As we sit down to write this end-of-year blog post, we find ourselves experiencing a range of different emotions—gratitude, pride, and excitement, to name a few. It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since we embarked on this hand-poured candle journey together. This reflection is not just a recount of the past year's challenges and triumphs but also a celebration of the community we've built, the lessons we've learned, and the excitement for what lies ahead.
Learning the Ropes
Launching our Irish handmade candles in Ireland was not without its challenges. The three of us, geographically scattered, faced the unique obstacle of coordinating and learning the ropes of entrepreneurship from different counties. Yet, it's precisely this that has made our achievements even more remarkable. Through many zoom meetings, what's app late-night calls, and shared digital Trello boards, we managed to navigate the intricacies of running a business as a team, proving that distance is no match for our determination and drive to succeed. We began on the journey using our gorgeous tin vessel - we were so proud of how far we had got the business on our own, We knew we wanted and needed to elevate our product if we were going to succeed and so we launched our new brand and product in July 2023. We worked with an amazing branding consultant on this project who helped us to bring our vision for One Fifty to life.
Creating a Legacy
Our passion goes beyond just crafting luxury candles; it's about creating a legacy for our families and extended families. We envisioned a business that would not only bring light into homes but also provide a source of pride for generations to come. Every drip of wax, every scent perfected, is a step towards leaving a lasting imprint on our family's history. Our story began as one of loss, and while we still are deeply grieving the loss of our Mom and Nan, One Fifty has been her final parting gift to us. This is our why, why we work so hard, why we face the challenges head on and why we continue to drive on in her name.
The Power of Community
One of the highs of our journey was joining the Club Women's Network—a community that became our beacon of support. In this space, we found not only friends but invaluable guidance and encouragement. The camaraderie we built is a testament to the strength that comes from shared dreams and common goals. Being nominated for awards alongside such empowering women filled us with a sense of accomplishment and fuelled our determination to reach greater heights.
Collaborations and Connections
Our journey extended beyond the virtual realm with in-person events like WedFest and the Grief Ireland Retreat. These experiences allowed us to connect with our customers, share stories and form partnerships that enriched both our personal and professional lives. As we bid farewell to 2023, our hearts are filled with excitement for what the future holds.
